What are the control measures taken in the case of tikka disease of the groundnut?

Tikka disease of groundnut:

  1. It is also known as leaf spot disease.
  2. It is caused by the species of the genus Cercospora namely Cercospora personata and Crecospora arachidicola.
  3. The symptoms include dark spots on the leaflets of the lower leaves which are surrounded by yellow rings.
  4. The leaves of the trees are also shed in this disease.

Control measures:

  1. Burning of the previous year's diseased plants reduces infection to a great extent.
  2. Two to four years of crop rotation is also effective in reducing infection.
  3. Seed disinfection is a means of preventing the disease.
  4. Spraying fungicides like Bordeaux mixture.
  5. The most effective means is to use resistant varieties of crops.
