Centrioles:

  1. It is a cylindrical structure located in the centrosome.
  2. It is 0.15-0.25μin diameter and 0.3-0.5μin length.
  3. It is formed of nine groups of triplet microtubules or fibers.
  4. They do not divide but at the time of cell division, a new centriole is formed from pericentriolar satellites.
  5. They form a spindle which plays an important role in cell division.
  6. They give rise to basal bodies.
  7. The distal centriole present in the spermatid forms the tail of the sperm.
