Diseases of the digestive system:

Jaundice:

  1. It is a disease of the liver.
  2. The liver cells fail to digest the bile which contains a yellow bile pigment, bilirubin.
  3. The pigment accumulates in blood causing yellow coloration to the eyes, nails, skin, and urine.

Constipation:

  1. In this disease, there is difficulty in passing the bowl.
  2. The fecal matter becomes hard which makes it painful to evacuate.
  3. The main reasons for constipation are lack of roughage in the diet, insufficient exercise, and nervous tension.

Diarrhea:

  1. Frequent and excessive discharge of liquid or semisolid feces occurs.
  2. Discharge of liquid is accompanied by abdominal pain and discomfort.
  3. It is caused due to lack of proper absorption, allergy, or infection through contaminated food or water.

Nausea:

  1. It is a feeling of discomfort in the stomach.
  2. It is relieved by vomiting.
  3. Some of the main causes of nausea are overeating, eating fatty and spicy food, and taking alcoholic drinks.

Vomiting:

  1. It is the throwing out of food or any other matter through the mouth from the stomach.
  2. The causes of vomiting include eating contaminated food, disorders of the digestive tract, and traveling sickness.

Indigestion:

  1. It causes stomach upset, nausea, excessive blenching, abdominal discomfort, cramps, etc.
  2. It is mainly caused due to improper digestion of food.
  3. It can be caused by food poisoning, overeating, and eating spicy food.
  4. It can also be caused due to inadequate enzyme secretion and anxiety.
