Plastids are the membrane-bound cell organelles present in plant cells found in the cytoplasm. The food made by the plants is stored in the plastids.
Plastids are of three types namely, leucoplasts (the colorless plastids), chromoplasts (the colored plastids except for green), and chloroplasts (the green-colored plastids).
The function of plastids :
Plastids perform the following functions-
Leucoplasts store food in the form of lipids, carbohydrates, and proteins.
Chromoplasts are responsible for imparting color to certain parts of plants like flower petals, some roots, fruits, etc. so that insects can be attracted for pollination.
Chloroplasts absorb light energy and are responsible for preparing food for the plant.
