What are the different kinds of joints found in our body? Explain with an example of each.

The point at which two bones meet is known as joint.
There are different types of joints present in our body. They are as follows:
  • Hinge Joint: Allows front and back movement. It is present in the knees, elbows and fingers.
  • Pivotal Joint: Allows front and back movement along with side to side movement of bones. It is present in the neck.
  • Ball and socket Joint: Allows movement of the bones in all directions. It is present in the hips and shoulders.
  • Saddle Joint: Allows left and right as well as upward and downward movement of the wrist. It is also present in the thumb.
  • Fixed joint: Do not allow any movement of bones, thus are called immovable joints. It is present in the skull.
