Plastids are present in plants cells and are of three types.
  • Chloroplast
  • Chloroplasts
  • Leucoplasts
Chloroplasts (Green colored plastids)
  • Location: Present in parts of plant exposed to light.
  • Function: They contain chlorophyll and are sites of photosynthesis.
Chromoplasts (Coloured plastid)
  • Location: These can be usually found in flowering plants, ageing leaves and fruits.
  • Function: Imparts colour to flowers and fruits.
Leucoplasts (The colorless plastids)
  • Location: Present in non-photosynthetic parts of plants, such as roots, tubers, seeds, and many more.
  • Function: They take part in the storage of food material.
