Dear Student, Inert electrolyte like KCl or KNO3 in agar-agar solution and gelatin is used in salt bridge. Two conditions that must be satisfied for an salt to be used as electrolyte is 1) The mobility of cation and anion must be similar so that the solution is neutralised at same time at cathode and anode. 2) The ions of electrolyte must not react with ions or electrode of the electrolytic solution.
