Solution

Irrigation:

  1. Irrigation is the artificial application of water to crops to meet their water requirements.
  2. Irrigation can also be used to deliver nutrients to the crops.

Different systems of irrigation:

  1. Tanks: Small storage reservoirs that intercept and store run-off from smaller catchments are known as tanks.
  2. Canals: Canals are waterways that receive water from one or more reservoirs or rivers.
  3. The main canal is divided into branch canals with additional distributaries to irrigate farms.
  4. Tube wells: Water can be tapped from deeper strata using tube wells. The water is then pumped up from the wells to water the plants.
