What are the different types of freshwater resources?

Freshwater: This includes the resources of water that have nil or a very low quantity of dissolved salts. This mainly includes lakes, ponds, and rivers.

There are different forms of freshwater resources such as-

1. Rainwater - It is the water that percolates into the ground. Rainfall or precipitation brings three trillion m³ of water to India. Its severity varies depending on the zone, thus zones are classed accordingly as
   1. Wet zone
   2. Intermediate zone
   3. Semi-arid zone
   4. Arid zone
2. Surface water - Surface water flows through 14 major river systems in India, including the Ganga, Godavari, Bahmani, Kavery, and Brahmaputra.
3. Groundwater - Water that percolates into the ground through the soil's air gaps.
