Solution
Passive transport
It is a type of transport in which the substances are transferred from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration without using any cellular energy.
It can be of two types :
Simple diffusion does not require the carrier proteins and can occur without the involvement of living systems for e.g. diffusion of the particles of room freshener from a region of high concentration to the region of low concentration.
Facilitated diffusion takes place with the help of carrier proteins which occur on the cell membrane and can hold the substance and transport it towards another side of the membrane.
Active transport
It is a type of transport in which the substances are transferred from a region of low concentration to a region of high concentration by utilizing cellular energy in the form of ATP. So, it is also called uphill transport.
