The two types of the mixture are-

(a) Homogeneous mixtures:

  • In this type of mixture, composition and properties are consistent throughout the mixture.
  • The components are uniformly mixed and the individual components are not visible separately.

Examples of homogeneous mixtures:

  • Alloys of metals (solid in solid).
  • Salt and water (solid in liquid).
  • Alcohol and water (liquid in liquid).
  • Oxygen in water (gas in liquid).

(b) Heterogeneous mixtures:

  • In this type of mixture, the composition is not consistent throughout the mixture.
  • The components are not uniformly mixed and the individual components are visible separately.

Examples of heterogeneous mixtures:

  • Wheat and husk (solid in solid).
  • Sand and water (solid in liquid).
  • Oil in water (liquid in liquid).
  • Foam (gas in liquid).
