Solution

Plastids:

Plastids are membrane-bound organelles present in the plant cells that absorb light energy and use it in preparing food. They are located in the cytoplasm of the plant cell. They are responsible for the synthesis and storage of food. Plastids are categorized into three types namely,

  1. Leucoplasts: Leucoplasts are colorless plastids that are present in some regions of the plant which do not receive light. They are responsible for the storage of lipids, carbohydrates, and proteins.
  2. Chromoplasts: Chromoplasts are colored plastids that contain carotenoid pigment. The function of chromoplasts is imparting color to certain parts of plants such as flower petals, fruits, some roots, etc. to attract insects for pollination.
  3. Chloroplasts: Chloroplasts are green-colored plastids that are the site for photosynthesis. Therefore, they are also known as the kitchen of the cells. They contain a photosynthetic pigment known as chlorophyll.
