Dear student,
Following are the processes which allow exchange of substances across cell membrane.
Passive Transport- In this movement of molecules across the cell membrane does not requires energy. There are three main kind of passive transport-
Diffusion- Movement of molecules from the region of higher concentration to the region of lower concentration.
Osmosis- Movement of water across semi permeable membrane to the region of higher concentration of solutes
Facilitated diffusion- Requires carrier proteins to carry molecules across cell membrane from an area of high concentration to the region of low concentration.
Active transport-It requires energy in form of ATP to transport the substance in and out of the cell against the concentration gradient.
Endocytosis-Substances enters in cell through cell membrane
Exocytosis- Substance are expelled out from cell through cell membrane.
