2. It is the slow destruction of metals or materials made up of metals on exposure to the environment.
3. Factors influencing corrosion could be

• purity of the metal
• electropositive nature of metal
• the presence of reactive gases in the atmosphere
• the salt present in water and
• the temperature

Disadvantages of corrosion

1. The dull appearance of the metals like Copper, Brass, or Iron. Copper and Brass turn green when exposed to the atmosphere for a long time, whereas Iron turns reddish-brown when exposed to the atmosphere because of the rust formation.
2. It decreases the life span of metallic machines or objects.
3. It also varies the chemical properties of the compound.
4. A large amount of money is to be wasted on prevention every year.
