  • Evils of corruption
    • The misuse of the public position and resources for personal benefits is ​termed as ‘Corruption.
    • Corruption abuses and exhausts the trust ​of the people. It’s a dreadful practice ​that weakens democracy and nourishes ​inequality. It challenges the overall ​economic development of the nation.
  • The government has taken a number of steps to curb corruption. Some of them include-
    • Establishment of the Central Anti-bribery bureau in 1964 in order to keep a check on corruption by government officers.
    • Enactment of the Anti Corruption Act 1988 has ensured the clean public life of government officers. It requires government officers to declare their property and assets before taking charge.
    • Enactment of the Black Money Act 2005 has declared corruption as a crime.
    • The government has also made changes to the Foreign Exchange Management Act and Money laundering act in order to prevent misuse of foreign funds and illegal conversion of black money into white money.
    • The Government enacted the Right to Information Act 2005 in order to bring greater transparency in the working of the government systems. This act allows common citizens to seek information from government officers.
