  1. Trichomes are the epidermal hairs that grow on the plant's stem.
  2. Unicellular trichomes, which look like hairs, can be seen in dicot stems. It is not present in monocot stems.
  3. When insects come into touch with the plant leaves, some trichomes produce mucilage that traps them.
  4. Trichomes protect plants from UV light, insect predation, and excessive transpiration, and hence play a crucial role in their growth and development.
  5. They perform a vital role in plant pollination.
