Open in App
Solution

Essential conditions for rusting:

  • Rusting is the process of iron corrosion. The presence of air (oxygen) and moisture (Water) are the essential conditions for rusting to occur.
  • When an object made of iron is exposed to moist air and water for a long time, it gets corroded and leads to the formation of a compound called ferric oxide or iron oxide Fe2O3 also called rust.
  • Oxidation of iron increases in the rusting process along with electron loss.
  • The rusting process is accelerated by less active metals, acids, and the presence of the rust itself.
