Question

What are the factors on which the magnetic field produced by a current-carrying coil depends?

Open in App
Solution

  1. A solenoid is a device that is formed when an insulated current-carrying wire is bent into a coil with an N number of loops of turns.
  2. It is like the wrapping of a wire on a cylindrical object. The individual magnetic field of each turn contributes and it results in a magnetic field that is like the magnetic field of a bar magnet.
  3. The magnitude of the magnetic field depends on the following factors:
  1. Number of loop/turns, N.
  2. Amount of current in a coil.
  3. Material inside the cylinder.

In these factors amount of current and number of turns play a major role. Both are directly proportional to the magnetic field produced and can be used as a factor to produce a strong electromagnetic field.
