(i) Though the physiography of the region is the major barrier in the development of transportation, the Western Ghats have been the attraction for the large number of tourists because it has many hill stations.
(ii) Satpura in Gujarat, Mahabaleshwar in Maharashtra, Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu and Munnaar in Kerala are some of the important hill stations.
(iii) Besides these hill stations, a number of national parks and sanctuaries attracts largenumber of tourists.
(iv) The coastal areas have relatively a good road network along with the accessibility by airways.
(v) Along the coastal tracts, beaches like Srivardhan and Guhagar in Maharashtra Kolwa and Kalangut beach in Goa, Karwar beach in, Karnataka and Kovalam beach in Kerala are famous tourist destinations.
(vi) Besides these centers of nature tourism, there are a large number of centers of cultural and historical importance e.g. Raigad, Gokarna, Ganpatipule, Guruvayur etc.
Above are the factors which have made the Western Ghats and Western coast the favoured destination of tourists.
