The modern periodic table is an arrangement of all the elements known in accordance with their increasing atomic number and recurring chemical properties.

It is a tabular display of the chemical elements which consists of horizontal rows called periods and vertical columns are called groups.

Group 1:

  • In this group, elements are known as Alkali Metals.
  • It consists of Hydrogen (H), Lithium (Li), Sodium (Na), Potassium (K), Rubidium (Rb), Cesium (Cs), and francium (Fr).

Group 2:

  • In this group, elements are known as alkaline earth Metals.
  • It consists of Beryllium(Be), Magnesium(Mg), Calcium(Ca), Strontium(Sr), Barium(Ba), Radium(Ra).

Group 17:

  • In this group, elements are known as halogens, these are non-metals.
  • It consists of Fluorine(F), Chlorine(Cl), Bromine(Br), Iodine(I) and Astatine(At).

Group 18:

  • In this group, elements are known as inert gases, these are unreactive gases.
  • It consists of Helium (He), Neon (Ne), Argon (Ar), Krypton (Kr), Xenon (Xe), and Radon (Rn).
