Question

What are the four properties of electric charge?

Open in App
Solution

Electric charge:

  1. According to the quantization of electric charge, electric charge is defined as the integral multiple of the charge present on them. Mathematically, it can be expressed as q=ne, where e is the elementary charge 1.6×10-19C and n is the integral number of charges transferred.
  2. The electric charge is denoted by q and its unit is C(coulomb).

Properties of an electric charge :

  1. The charge can be positive (+) or negative (-).
  2. The conservation of charges says that the charges are neither created nor destroyed, But they can be transferred from one body to another, In an Isolated system, the charges are always conserved.
  3. One coulomb of charge contains around 6×1018electrons.
  4. It is a scalar quantity as it has only magnitude and no direction.
  5. Like charges repel each other and unlike charges attract each other.
