Plasma:


  1. It is the liquid component which contains 95% water and the blood cells are seen flowing in the plasma.
  2. It is a straw-yellow colored viscous fluid which contributes about 55-60% of all total blood.
  3. It contains water, minerals, glucose, proteins and clotting factors like fibrinogen.

Functions of plasma:


  1. Presence of clotting factors in the plasma helps in the blood coagulation.
  2. It helps to transport nutrients, electrolytes, hormones, and other important substances throughout the body.
  3. It helps to remove waste products by transporting them to the liver, lungs, kidneys, or skin.
  4. It contains antibodies and immunoglobulins which fight against pathogens.
  5. Substances present in blood plasma act as buffers, allowing plasma to maintain a pH within normal ranges, which helps to support cell function.
  6. It maintains the body temperature by balancing the heat.
