The Golgi apparatus is an organelle present in most eukaryotic cells. It is made up of membrane-bound sacs and is also called a Golgi body, Golgi complex, or dictyosome. The principal function of Golgi complex is secretion.
The function of the Golgi apparatus is to process and bundle macromolecules like proteins and lipids as they are synthesized within the cell. It is involved in the formation of lysosomes and other enzyme-containing cellular inclusions and in the formation of secretory granules in cells such as those found in the pancreas, pituitary and mammary glands, and mucus-secreting glands of the intestine and in many other cell types.
