Nyaya panchayat, or the village court provides speedy justice to the villagers. It has more than one village under its control. It deals with petty cases such as theft etc.The nyaya panchayat has right to fine an offender but not send him to jail. These nyaya panchayats are guided by local village traditions and customs.

Generally, there is one Nyaya panchayts for every two or three villages. Each village panchayat elects a member to the nyaya panchayat which is headed by a Sarpanch. It hears minor civil and criminal cases.
