The functions of roots are as follows:

• It provides anchorage so that plant can stand firmly on the ground.
• It absorbs water and minerals from the soil and transports them to the other parts of the plant.
• Apart from these two functions, roots of some plants have the ability to modify themselves for storage purposes. Example: Carrot, Turnip, etc.
