What are the functions of the kidneys?
Excretion of urea
Excretion of extra water
Retention of water
Excretion of salts
Human beings possess a pair of kidneys, on both sides of the vertebral column adjoining the muscles in the abdominal cavity. The functions of the kidneys are to excrete nitrogenous wastes such as urea, remove excess water and salts; and retain water when the amount of water in the body is less.
