Muscular tissues:

  1. They form the muscles of the body, and are present in every part of the body.
  2. Based on their location and function they are classified into three types.
  3. They are voluntary, involuntary and cardiac muscles.

Voluntary or striated muscles:

  1. They are under the control of an individual and are known as voluntary muscles.
  2. They are attached to the bones and also known as skeletal muscles.

Involuntary or unstriated muscles:

  1. They are not under the control of an individual and are known as involuntary muscles.
  2. These are smooth structures without any striations therefore known as unstriated or smooth muscles.

Cardiac muscles:

  1. These are the special types of muscles present only in the walls of the heart.
  2. They are involuntary in action and voluntary as they have striations.

Functions of the muscular tissue:

  1. Muscular tissue helps in the movements in the body.
  2. It helps in easy functioning of the internal organs .
  3. It helps in the circulation of the blood.
  4. They help in the movement of food in the digestive system.
  5. They help in the constricting the blood vessels and emptying the urinary bladder.
