Corrosion:

  1. It is a natural process in which a metal is attacked by moisture and acid and then the metal becomes corroded through chemical or electrochemical reactions in the atmosphere.
  2. The reaction between Iron and air for a long time that creates a coating of brown flaky substance is called rust.

The effects of corrosion are described below:

  1. Silver material becomes black when it is exposed to air because it reacts with Sulfur in the air to form Silver sulfide.
  2. Copper material loses its shine and forms a green coat which is a basic copper carbonate due to the reaction of copper with carbon dioxide in the air.
  3. It damages the metal used in bridges which results in the failure of bridges.
  4. Corrosion affects the pipeline system which causes environmental damage.
