Effects of lightning:

1. Lightning often causes heavy damage to animals and people caught in a thunderstorm as it burns up everything that comes in its way.
2. It can cause fire and destroy buildings.
3. It can also destroy electronic equipment such as televisions, video cassette players, compact disc players, computers etc.

Precautions during lightning:

1. Avoid standing under or near all tall trees or buildings.
2. Avoid holding or touching metallic objects.
3. Disconnect your computer, television, telephone etc.
4. If caught outside, stand in the open, away from trees, buildings etc. Do not use an umbrella.
5. When you are traveling during a thunderstorm, do not come out of the vehicle. The bodies of vehicles are made of metals, producing a shielding effect due to fact that the electrostatic field inside a conductor is zero.

So, we can use these methods for avoiding lightning.
