When an infectious agent manages to infect and cause disease, it suggests that the innate and physiological barriers have been failed due to one or all of the following reasons:
1. There could be an injury in the skin that allowed unrestricted entry of the pathogen.
2. The pathogen has resisted the effect of HCl and other lysozymes may be because it was covered with resistant covering.
3. The white blood cells have died while phagocytosis and this has resulted in pus formation.
