Solution
Advancing monsoon or south-west monsoon season gives maximum rainfall to India
which lasts from June to September.
Temperature: Temperature
remains less uniform throughout the rainy season. Temperature rises whenever
there is a break in monsoon. Highest temperature is experienced in Aravali
ranges which is 38° to 40°C.
Other parts of north India
experience a temperature above 30°C.
Temperature over Western Ghats
is very low due to heavy rainfall. The coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and
adjoining parts of Andhra Pradesh have temperatures above 30°C as they receive
little rainfall during this season
Pressure: Low pressure
prevails due to high temperature and increases towards south.
Rainfall: 90% of total
rainfall is received in this season. Rainfall decreases with increase in
distance from sea.
Monsoon break: The rainless
interval during south west monsoon season is known as ‘breaks’. It is another characteristic feature of this season.
