Open in App
Solution

Advancing monsoon or south-west monsoon season gives maximum rainfall to India which lasts from June to September.

  • Temperature: Temperature remains less uniform throughout the rainy season. Temperature rises whenever there is a break in monsoon. Highest temperature is experienced in Aravali ranges which is 38° to 40°C.
  • Other parts of north India experience a temperature above 30°C.
  • Temperature over Western Ghats is very low due to heavy rainfall. The coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and adjoining parts of Andhra Pradesh have temperatures above 30°C as they receive little rainfall during this season
  • Pressure: Low pressure prevails due to high temperature and increases towards south.
  • Rainfall: 90% of total rainfall is received in this season. Rainfall decreases with increase in distance from sea.
  • Monsoon break: The rainless interval during south west monsoon season is known as ‘breaks’. It is another characteristic feature of this season.
