Dear Student,
Earth has various layer and uppermost layer of the earth's surface is called crust and is thinnest among all the layers of earth.
-It is about 35km on continental masses and is 5km on ocean floors.
-Continental mass are made of minerals like Silica and Alumina thus it is also called sial (si-silica and al-alumina), on taking the two initials of both the minerals.
-Oceanic crust is made of Silica and Magnesium; it is therefore called sima (si-silica and ma-magnesium).
Also, the earth’s crust is made up of various types of rocks. And rocks are any natural mass of mineral matter that makes up the earth’s crust.
Regards.
