Rhodophyceae
Rhodophyceae is a family of plants that includes rhodo (red algae), a type of marine algae that is mostly red in colour and has a filamentous or membranaceous form.
They are among the earliest families of eukaryotic algae, dating from the cambrian upwards, and they tend to occur at higher depths than green algae (Chlorophyta).
Rhodophyceae members are usually referred to as red algae.
The food is stored as Floridian starch, which has a structure that is quite similar to amylopectin and glycogen.
Polysiphonia, Porphyra, Gracilaria, and Gelidium are other examples.
