Question

What are the necessary conditions for adding of Alkenes on Hydrogen.

Open in App
Solution

  1. When unstaurated hydrocarbons such as Alkene is reacted with Hydrogen, such process is called hydrogenation or addition reaction.
  2. The reaction involves catalysts such as Platinum (Pt) , Nickel (Ni) and temperature upto 150C.
  3. Addition of hydrogen to alkene gives saturated hydrocarbon Alkane.
  4. The chemical reaction which shows the necessary conditions are as follows:
    C2H4(g)(Ethene)+H2(g)(Hydrogen)Ni150CC2H6(g)(Ethane)
  5. Therefore, the necessary conditions for adding of Alkenes on Hydrogen is the presence of catalyst and specific temperature.
