Placental Abnormalities:

  1. The placenta is an organ which develops at the time of the pregnancy in all mammals.
  2. The placenta supplies oxygen and nutrients to the developing fetus in the womb of the mother
  3. The placenta is an interim organ that connects the fetus to the mother's uterine walls via the umbilical cord.
  4. Some of the placental abnormalities are listed below:
    • Placenta previa: In this condition the placenta partially or fully covers the uterus opening.
    • Placenta Bipartita, Tripartita: In this, the placenta is separated into two or three layers.
    • Placenta percreta: In this placenta attaches itself to the uterus and grows through the uterus.
    • Placenta accreta: In this placenta attaches itself deeply into the uterus which can cause bleeding in the uterus.
    • Battledore placenta: In this condition, the umbilical cord is attached to the side rather than the middle.
