Question

What are the postulates of Bohr's model of an atom?

Open in App
Solution

The postulates of Bohr's model of an atom are as follows:
1. In an atom, the electrons revolve around the nucleus in certain definite circular paths called orbits or shells. These are represented by the letters K, L. M, N or the numbers n = 1, 2, 3, 4
2. The energy of an electron in the orbit does not change with time i.e., while revolving in discrete orbits the electrons do not radiate energy.
3. The electron will move from a lower shell to a higher shell when required amount of energy is absorbed by the electron or energy is emitted when electron moves from higher shell to lower shell.
