Question

What are the products formed when aluminium reacts with water???

Open in App
Solution

The reaction has 3 possible products . Here are the equations :

2Al+6H2O= 2Al(OH)3 + 3H2 (most stable form from room temperature to 280′C)

2Al+4H2O=2AlO(OH)+3H2 (most stable form from 280′C to 480′C)

2Al+H2O=Al2O3 +3H2 (most stable form above 480′C)

all of the above reactions react thermodynamically .

Thank you :)
