When zinc reacts with NaOH, hydrogen gas and sodium zincate are formed.
Reaction involved is -
Zn + 2NaOH $\to$Na_2​ZnO₂ + H₂
Confirmatory test for H₂ gas -
- Hydrogen gas produce a pop sound when match stick is lit near the mouth of test tube.
