Open in App
Solution

When baking soda or sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCo3) reacts with water carbonic acid is formed .The reaction is exothermic that is heat and Carbonic acid are produced. Carbonic acid is unstable so breaks up into carbon dioxide (fizzy or effervescence) and water. An endothermic reaction takes place that is heat is externally provided for reaction to take place.

NaHCO3. +H2O —-> NaOH + H2CO3

H2 CO3———→ H2O +CO2 Carbon dioxide is produces and liberated as effervescence.
