What are the properties of Colloids?
Colloids - Colloids are the heterogeneous mixture of one or more substances or compounds distributed in a solid, liquid, or gaseous medium as relatively big solid particles or liquid droplets.
Colloids consist of two parts - Dispersed phase (one present in small quantity) and dispersion medium (one present in large quantity). For example, sols, gels, aerosols, foam, etc.
Properties of Colloids
Tyndall Effect - The phenomenon in which a beam of light is scattered through suspended particles or colloidal particles is called the Tyndall effect. For example, milk solution, blood, smoke or dust in a room, etc.
Coagulation -Coagulation is a process of aggregation or accumulation of colloidal particles to settle down as a precipitate.
Electrophoresis - Electrophoresis is a technique used to separate macromolecules in a colloid or gel based on their charge, binding affinity, and size under an electric field.
