Solution

Sound wave:

A sound wave is the pattern of disturbance caused by the energy traveling away from the source of the sound.

Properties of sound waves:

The five properties of sound waves are provided below:

Wavelength:

  1. The minimum distance in which a sound wave repeats itself is called wavelength.
  2. Wavelength is denoted by “λ”.

Amplitude:

  1. The amplitude of the sound is the magnitude of the maximum disturbance in a sound wave.
  2. The amplitude is also a measure of energy.

Time period:

  1. The time taken to complete one vibration is known as time-period is called as Time-period.
  2. A time period is denoted by “T”.
  3. The S.I unit is “sec”.

Frequency of sound:

  1. The number of rarefactions and compressions that occur per unit of time is known as frequency.
  2. It is denoted by “f”.

Speed of sound:

  1. The speed at which sound waves propagate through a medium is known as the speed of sound.
  2. It is denoted by “c”.
