What are the reasons for superbugs to be formed?
Increased use of antibiotics
Increased cultivation of pest and disease resistant crops
Extensive use of antibiotic resistant genes in genetic engineering
Superbugs are formed when organisms existing in the wild alter themselves and are no longer affected by the chemicals which could otherwise kill them. Increased use of antibiotics as well as increased use of antibiotic resistance genes as selectable markers in genetic engineering have provided the stimulus for the target organisms to alter their genomes and accumulate resistance against traditional antibiotics. Similarly, increased growth of pest and disease resistant crops have paved the way for the introduction of pest varieties that are immune to the given toxin.
