Solution

Salient features of the two-kingdom system of classification:

  1. Carolus Linnaeus was the first to divide living beings into two kingdoms, which he called kingdom Plantae and kingdom Animalia.
  2. This categorization system was based on environment, cell structure, cell wall nature, mode of nourishment, reproductive strategies, and so forth.
  3. Chlorophyll-containing green plants, mosses, ferns, numerous colorless and colored unicellular creatures, molds, Fungi, lichens, bacteria, and multicellular seaweeds comprised the kingdom Plantae.
  4. Many more unicellular Protozoans and multicellular animals lacking chlorophyll and photosynthetic capabilities were placed in the kingdom Animalia.

Characteristics of Kingdom Plantae:

  1. These are stationary and hence lack movement.
  2. They are autotrophic because they prepare their own food.
  3. They have a cellulose-based cell wall.
  4. They are devoid of excretory organs, sensory organs, and a neurological system.
  5. Example- All plants.

Characteristics of Kingdom Animalia:

  1. They can move and so have locomotion.
  2. They are heterotrophic since they cannot prepare their own food.
  3. They don't have a cell wall.
  4. They have excretory and sensory organs, as well as a neurological system.
  5. Example- All animals including protista, monera, etc.
