Question

What are the slope of x-axis and y-axis?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1. Slope of x-axis.

The slope of a line is equal to the tangent of the angle at which the line is inclined to x-axis.

x-axis is inclined at 0° with itself.

Thus,

slopeofx-axis=tan0°slopeofx-axis=0

Step 2. Slope of y-axis.

y-axis is perpendicular to x-axis, that is, it is inclined at 90° to x-axis.

Thus,

slopeofy-axis=tan90°slopeofy-axis=undefined

Hence, the slope of x-axis and y-axis is 0and undefined respectively.
