What are the the extreme terms and middle terms in ratio and proportion chapter

A proportion is simply a statement that two ratios are equal. It can be written in two ways: as two equal fractions $\frac{\mathrm{a}}{\mathrm{b}}=\frac{\mathrm{c}}{\mathrm{d}}$; or using a colon, a:b = c:d.

Here, a and d are known as extreme terms and b and c are known as middle terms.
