  1. The womb or uterus is three components of the female reproductive system in which the development of a baby takes place.
  2. It is situated between the bladder and rectum, and above the vagina.
  3. It is a hollow and muscular organ, which is of inverted pear shape.
  4. The wall of the uterus possesses three layers.

The three layers of the uterine wall:

  1. Endometrium: It is the innermost layer, which lines the uterus. It is formed of glandular cells, which generate secretions.
  2. Myometrium: It is the middle layer of the uterine wall and is the thickest one. It is primarily formed of smooth muscle.
  3. Perimetrium: It is the outermost layer of the uterine wall. The layer discharges a lubricating fluid, which assists in decreasing friction.
