Question

what are the three main effects of superposition of waves?

Open in App
Solution

Effects of Superposition-

(1) Due to Superposition Two or More different waves can travel in a medium simultaneously without disturbing each other. So that one can distinguish different Sounds.
(2) When two or more waves travel in same direction(phase difference of 00) then after superposition the resultant wave will have as the sum two waves. At that point we get maximum Intensity.
(3) If two or more waves travelling in opposite direction (phase difference of 1800 between them) then the resultant wave will have amplitude as the Difference of constituent waves. At this point the Intensity will be minimum.
So due to Superposition Interference takes place.
