Open in App
Solution

Step-1:

Matter:

  1. Every matter is made up of particles that differ in size, shape, and nature.
  2. The matter is not continuous but it is particulate i.e., it is made up of particles.

Step-2:

Classification of the matter based on the physical state:

  1. Based on the physical state, all the matter can be classified into three groups namely solid-state, liquid state, and gaseous state or vapor state.
  2. Solid, liquid, and gas are not substances but are three states of the same substance which differ in inter-particle spaces.
  3. For example, water exists as a solid in the form of ice, as a liquid in the form of water, and as a gas in the form of steam.

Example:

Solids: Wood, sugar, rocks, minerals, sand, iron.

Liquids: Water, milk, petrol, alcohol.

Gases: Air, oxygen, carbon dioxide, steam.
