Stomach:

  1. The stomach is a muscular bag present on the left side of the abdominal cavity below the diaphragm.
  2. The stomach is a vital organ used for storing and digesting food.
  3. The stomach is responsible for producing hydrochloric acid and enzymes for digestion.

Functions of the stomach:

  1. The stomach stores the food for about four to five hours.
  2. The stomach helps the food to get mixed with gastric juice (acidic) and get churned.
  3. The stomach secretes pepsin, a proteolytic enzyme that is responsible for protein digestion.
  4. The parietal cells of the stomach create HCl.

Functions of HCl produced in stomach:

  1. In the stomach, hydrochloric acid is a necessary acid.
  2. It aids in the eradication of dangerous bacteria and other species.
  3. In order to digest proteins in our stomach, HCl changes inactive pepsinogen into pepsin.
  4. It also functions as a food preservative.
